Conflict Management: UTM prof studies civil wars around the globe

As a child, Noel Anderson remembers seeing armed British soldiers at roadside security checkpoints during childhood visits to his family in Ireland. Those images stuck with Anderson and inspired his future work as a political scientist. Now an assistant professor at U of T Mississauga, Anderson studies civil wars and the effect that powerful third-party states can have on civil conflicts around the globe.

UTM researchers awarded $1.4 million in federal funding

Professor Jessamyn Schertz is one of 16 University of Toronto Mississauga faculty members to receive a total of more than $1.4 million in grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

Regardless if it is "tomato" or "to-mah-to", pronunciations are of particular interest for Schertz, who works in the Department of Language Studies.

U of T Mississauga recognized excellence in research, teaching and staff service at the the 2017 Excellence Awards reception, which took place in the Faculty Club on November 14.

Vice-President & Principal Ulrich Krull hosted the packed annual event which recognizes the outstanding work of UTM staff, faculty and teaching assistants. “Today we celebrate those people from our community who have done particularly well,” he said. “These individuals are the best among us, who are building our community and making it a better place.”

Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre opens at UTM

U of T Mississauga hosted an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 14 to officially open the Sexual Assault Prevention and Support Centre on campus. The centre, which launched in June, is one of three located across the university’s three campuses. Sexual violence prevention and response coordinators offer confidential support to students, staff and faculty experiencing sexual violence.
